Listen now | My brain is going to explode. Maybe I just have to accept that this industry decided to burn its own money and 40+ years of building a very successful revenue model based on windows. This was a model that built very focused interest and revenues through a series of steps that took advantage of differing groups of movie consumers at each level of comfort (of effort and spending) in every group’s engagement.
The problem is that when you peruse that list above of 2023 theatrical wide releases, there are incredibly few that look like movies geared toward adults, searching for sophisticated thought, be it an "adult" drama, comedy, etcetera. Everything else is comic book, family, or big dumb action.
Oppenheimer.
Perhaps the Creed sequel.
Perhaps the Dune sequel.
Maybe The Exorcist.
That's about it. It's like Hollywood simply looked at a guy like me and said, "nothing to see here....keep walking on by the theater.....godbye".
