Have a wonderful, wonderful 4th of July!

Quarter 2 of the 2022 ends… based on movies grossing $1 million and more…
Quarter 1 2019 - 88 titles - $2,375,867,725
Quarter 1 2022 - 47 titles - $1,323,998,013
Q1 2022 was 44% behind 2019

Quarter 2 2019 - 70 titles - $3,224,577,329
Quarter 2 2022 - 38 titles - $2,308,350,908
Q2 2022 was 28% behind 2019 (note: Avengers: Endgame grossed $170m more in Q2 2019 than any Q2 film in history, the difference alone = 5% of Q2 2019.)

WSJ Pull - “Box-office tracker Comscore had initially projected opening-weekend receipts of $65 million, but it revised that estimate upward on Friday to $100 million after strong results from Thursday night previews.”
AKA results over projections, however sophisticated.

Joey “Jaws” Chestnut Successfully Defends Mustard Belt in Coney Island

1776 Is Coming Back to Broadway. This musical tale of the Declaration of Independence will feature a company of female, nonbinary, and trans actors.

That sound you hear is the Disney Board asking their flight hostess for vomit bags.
James Cameron Might Not Direct Avatar 4 And 5 Himself

Who should direct Avatar 4 & 5, if not Jim Cameron? I think they should go with someone who will not just try to stay on Cameron’s course... respectful, but a different, strong voice. Someone like Rian Johnson or David Lowery or, gulp, Robert Eggers. Who do you think could do it? Or do you think Disney will be owned by Amazon by then?
