THB #737: Last Trailer Window In The Femme Movie Desert
This is just a moment to highlight 2 movies that pushed out trailers today, clearly trying to catch the last wave of female-friendly family audience that is expected this weekend from Freakier Friday opening in theaters.
Both films are relatively late additions to the calendar. Both are pick-ups or output deals from international film companies (one German, the other Japanese).
One generally misguided outlet is already shoving Rental Family into the Oscar race because its being released by Searchlight, though it is much more reminiscent to me of a film I quite liked, but did mediocre business and has never really been given big love, Instant Family, led by Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne, released by Paramount on November 16, 2018. Rental Family opens November 21 in a massively crowded, female-led Thanksgiving family window with Zootopia 2 and Wicked For Good.
