There is nothing wrong with Ballerina.
The degree to which there is something right or very right with Ballerina is really up to your taste.
In many ways, it delivers in a way that Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning really doesn’t… as it is, from the very start to the very finish, the film that the franchise promises and not much more. But it gives you it’s essence… action sequence after action sequence after action sequence. There is a bit of story involved, but it’s just coincidental to the action. There is one big revelation in the 3rd act and the movie just sets it up and then throws it away like it was nothing. I don’t want to do any spoiling, but let me just say, in a movie about a woman kicking ass, wouldn’t it have been a rush to have 2 women kicking ass together? It’s a rhetorical question… answer is “fuck yeah!”
So why isn’t Ballerina one of the great thrill rides of the summer?
Well… in a comparative study, maybe it is… one, that is.
