2 weeks ago, it was off to New York to dive into the theater for a week, Tuesday to Sunday. And here is how it went…
Disappointing is the only word that fits. The actors were very good. The production design was excellent. The sound was clever. But the 90-minute show was almost like a greatest hits album. There wasn’t an idea in the piece that I don’t support whole-heartedly…but I had not only been there before in the movie, but I am living in the nightmare of tyranny that needs to be exposed in my country every day now. Clooney was fine, though the role called for him to perform into a camera much of the time… which we have all seen. I would love to see him in a Noel Coward show or some kind of light comedy. He says he can’t sing, so we’ll keep him away from the obvious refuge for charming men who don’t really sing, Camelot and My Fair Lady.
