I didn’t hate Thunderbolts*.
But I did keep waiting to find a reason why the people who wrote all those junket-y rave reviews were not high on something very, very pleasant that wasn’t this movie.
I am a fan of the work of the credited writers (Eric Pearson & Joanna Calo) and the director, Jake Schreier, though most of his credits are on TV and sure enough, he directs like a TV director.
The thing about Thunderbolts* is that context hangs over it, fairly or not, and it feels like the kind of thing that Disney+ did for a bunch of years. Very little in terms of actual super powers. Reasonable action, though nothing overwhelming or remotely memorable. A lot of talking. I happen to like watching Florence Pugh talk. I also like Sebastian Stan talking, though he really takes a backseat in this movie, which was a little surprising.
