It seems rather silly to argue, at this point, that Anora is anything less than the current frontrunner in the Best Picture race, having won the DGA and PGA over the weekend.
But in The Season of the Freak™, that is hardly an assurance.
3 of the last 10 PGA picks failed to bring home Best Picture. 1 of those, 1917, won PGA and DGA and still lost both correlative awards to Parasite. So… it happens.
It is also worth considering that neither guild reflects what is now a fill third of The Academy’s voters… the international membership. Of course, it may be that this group prefers Anora to anything else, especially in light of the troubles around Emilia Pérez.
And this… Anora is still the only major contender in The 10 to win any of the “major” awards, aside from The Brutalist winning New York Film Critics Circle, to win anything at all. (No… not including The Golden Penskes here.)
