If you have read me before, you have surely read me going on and on (and on) about the need for more movies from the major studios or a wider range of genres and budgets. Everything I know about how the movie interaction with audiences after 40+ years in and around this industry tells me that this is a real need and should lead to success.
But here is the problem…
Flight Risk - $23 million domestic after 2 weeks in theaters
Wolfman - $20 million after 3 weeks in theaters
Den of Thieves: Pantera - $35 million after 4 weeks in theaters
The most successful original live-action title of the month is One of Them Days, which has grossed $36 million after 3 weekends.
And the highest grosser to open in January... January 31… is Dog Man, which did a very reasonable $36 million on opening weekend with another $4 million going into today ($40m 1-week total), the start of its second weekend.
Studios will use this weak showing to claim that they should not invest more aggressively in non-IP films moving …
