I saw that Nightbitch, which I have considered one of the most underrated movies of the season, was now on Hulu. The film was released in limited 3 weeks ago… so limited that it didn’t report grosses. It’s Oscar qualified, but in a strong market where Wicked and Moana 2 are losing screens, it’s off to a pseudo-streaming released.
This got me to thinking… a lot of people I know (and I) have access to most of the awards-minded movies on streaming platforms put together for various awards groups. And because this the structure that The Academy has gotten behind and makes profit on, it’s a good bet that most of the people who have streaming access to most of the season’s films are watching those films that way… which kinda sucks… but The Academy has abandoned theatrical in so many disappointing ways. It is what it is.
