Many moons ago, filmmaker Bill Condon coined the phrase, “the great settling,” referencing the period in which Academy members are activated and digging deep into the set of movies they need to watch in order to be responsible voters.
After 3 months of active campaigning, we are finally getting down to the real nitty gritty. There are a couple of “late” movies building a head of steam. Some of the fantasy possibilities of a few months ago are reconsidering and hoping for a non-Best Picture nod here or there.
Nomination voting starts January 8, just a few days after the holiday break, and lasts for only 5 days in this electronic world in which we live.
So we are basically down to 3 weeks… so industryites all across the globe are making sure they have their Academy Streaming passwords in hand as they wander about with friends and family.
