THB #61: Can Award Season Be Fixed in Post?
COVID has changed a lot about the film and television business. Obviously.
The most often repeated myth is that COVID accelerated changes in the theatrical business. I don’t believe that. I believe COVID opened up a window for experimentation that was very difficult to implement during normal theatrical operations… even made it look daring. But there is no proof of any kind that audiences have somehow changed their feelings about theatrical in these (nearly) 2 ugly years.
But that isn’t the issue I am interested in today.
And I’m not getting into the personalities around Oscar today either. We are past the point of the personalities being the real issue. The real issue is, what is the point of all the hard, hard work?
