Whatever happened to Alfonso Cuarón?
It’s been 6 years since Cuarón won back-to-back Best Director Oscars for Roma and Gravity. Before those films, he was a once-every-3-years director. Children of Men to Gravity was 7 years… but Gravity was a game-changing technical film, so that seemed to make more sense.
After all this time not in the director’s chair (he has produced or exec produced 6 films in this period), he comes back with a 7-episode limited series for AppleTV+… writing (from the Renee Knight book) and directing every episode of *Disclaimer.
I had forgotten that *Disclaimer was premiering at the Venice Film Festival, where they showed the first 4 episodes (45 - 50 min per episode), so I was surprised by a bunch of reviews posting earlier this week. As it happens, I watched the entire series myself the week before and was busy not writing about it.
But I am getting ahead of myself…
