THB #576: Box Office Twister
Universal was right. I was wrong.
The campaign they ran for Twisters did the job, whatever the final number.
Gross Guessers are jumping all over the place with what the 3-day might be, all of them proven wrong once again going into the weekend and now, having no way of really gauging the numbers today (Saturday) or tomorrow (Sunday). They will keep guessing all weekend.
I doesn’t really matter in any way - as ever - whether I liked the movie or loved it or hated it. (Review here) Nor does the 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes… or the “A-” from CinemaScore… or what Oppenheimer did last year… or that PostTrak comically claims only 23% of moviegoers yesterday were registered to either political party (unlikely even if lots of families went)… or whatever unreliable ethnicity stats are being touted.
What matters is that of the 10s of millions of people who saw the trailer and the TV ads that were almost all straight cutdowns, wanted to see the movie about tornadoes and people running from them an…
