I hate when I can’t find anything worth writing about.
Of course, there is the array of ongoing industry issues that continue to be a hurricane of change, positive and negative. We’re soaking in them! (I’m pretty sure that reference requires that you were born before 1970.)
But how many times can we chew on the same rumors about Paramount or worry about the horrible ratings for The Emmys (which were pretty much assured by going up against an NFL playoff game) or kick off Sundance, which has closed the digital gates, regressing to being the Park City inbreeding festival that the festival has smartly and daringly fought for decades not to be. (When the sales agents take over control of your festival and its choices, you are not asserting your independence.)
The methodology of this newsletter is for me to wake up each day and to approach what is happening in the industry at that moment with wide eyes, finding something that feels compelling to write about. Most of the time, history finds it…
