Going to send the newsletter today in a couple steps, as precursors from SAG and DGA are announced…

8:30a - First in, SAG Award nominations. What do they mean? They mean that these are the choices of the SAG Nominating Committee.

The Ensemble winner has matched with the Oscar Best Picture winner just 6 times out of the last 10 years. In 3 of the 4 years the winner missed, the eventual Oscar winner was not nominated in this category by SAG. (Hello, Poor Things, The Holdovers, and Maestro.)

Best Actor, SAG winners have won 9 of the last 10 Oscars. (The 10th was Chadwick Boseman, who lost the Oscar to Anthony Hopkins.)

Best Actress, SAG winners have won 8 of the last 10 Oscars. (SAG winner Viola Davis lost the Oscar to Frances McDormand and SAG winner Glenn Close lost the Oscar to Olivia Colman.)

Best Supporting Actor, SAG winners have won 9 of the last 10 Oscars. (The 10th was Idris Elba, who didn’t get an Oscar nod… the Oscar winner was Mark Rylance, who was SAG nominated.)
