THB #443: Spider-Man, Music, Marvel & Clarity
I went to a great event last night. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, A Celebration of Music.” A live, local, serious orchestra (which happens to lean to players who are female and/or of color), a great drummer (who if you look closely, is dressed as Gwen), a great DJ, and on many instruments (including his face), the composer/performer Daniel Pemberton. They played the score live and it was, as these things usually are, remarkable.
At the end, over credits, there was Metro Boomin, who is at the top of the music producer game these days, delivering the songs that they hope will compete for an Oscar slot.
They put an intermission in the film, choosing not to kill the musicians. Everyone came back.
(The intermission did bring out an issue with The Academy Museum as a theatrical venue, which has been its greatest success so far… not enough bathrooms to handle a rush. But I digress…)
It is rare that we get to appreciate this level of artistry and a series of individuals coming together.…
