I did not end the SAG/Aftra strike… (when it ends in the next few days)
I know that.
I am not delusional.
But I also know that on the same day The Trades were taking the position that Studios’ New Proposal To Break Revenue Sharing Logjam “Flopped” In Room Today, I was out here explaining that not only did this need to be wrong, but how SAG-Aftra had backed themselves into a corner of absolutism that could not be negotiated and therefore, could not be solved.
I was kind of scared to publish that column on Sunday because I am absolutely pro-union in this matter and criticizing their strategy and their public tone could seen as anti-union or anti-strike. But damn it, someone had to be willing to say it in public… because I know there are plenty of people who could figure (had figured?) it out the same as I had. And on Wednesday, SAG/Aftra took the pause that refreshes and changed their tune.
They seem, from the little gossip that has leaked, to have done the right thing.
And if the leaks …
