THB #376: Non-Event Box Office & Why It Matters
It’s another Sunday… which means more pro-studio box office reporting.
But let’s put that aside and talk about something I have written about many times. Non-event movies and their importance to the future of cinema.
Earlier this week, I posted a discussion with Greg Marcus, CEO of Marcus Theaters, 4th biggest chain in America, in which he said, “If you’re going to give me 3 films a week, we’re going to be just fine.”
That’s not 3 Barbies every week. That doesn’t minimize the importance of Barbie and Oppenheimer and The Mario Bros Movie and other “mega” films, but it understands that you need a full slate of films at every level of ambition and/or success to keep the theatrical ecosystem healthy.
