There isn’t a lot to write about the film that is Sound of Freedom. It is a more dramatically shot 2-hour very special episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit without the legal part. This is not an insult. It’s just what it is.
The story is about a Homeland Security officer who becomes obsessed with saving sex-trafficked children in Mexico, Central America, and South America. It mixes the intimate and painful issue of the children, focusing heavily on one brother and sister, with a cop movie.
Seeing the film, weeks after its release, the biggest surprise for me was that it is not remotely religious or political. There is nothing right wing about caring about trafficked kids. And aside from a passing like or two, the only sign of a specific religious faith is that the lead and his wife have 6 children, adding one more by the end of the film… and even that is a reach.
