THB #363: WGA - Cards On The Table
Lots of people offering insight of varying degrees today on The Strike. For me, any conversation starts and ends on this page… WGA Negotiations—Status as of May 1, 2023.
This is the first time that everyone outside of the negotiation can see what is actually on the table. For me, the first WGA mistake is posting this for the first time after striking. Maybe there are boundaries about publication of such a specific list before being on strike. But strategically, this information allows the interested public (all 150,000 of us) to actually see what both sides are up to at this juncture.
I, for one, believe this should have played out for the entire interested audience before going to a strike… for better or worse. An informed WGA membership and industry matters. Writers have a legitimate concern that manifests into demands. Some of the demands are being under-demanded, in my opinion. And some are really beyond reality… at least as laid out in this document and in the subtext thereof.
