THB #355a: Netflix Quarterly Day!
Netflix is treading water.
What can I tell you?
There will always, it seems, be those who are always left panting by all and any spin Netflix puts on its results. And there will always be those who want to crap all over them?
Me? I like numbers. And the numbers this quarter say… yawn. The numbers last quarter said, “yawn” and the stock went from $326 to today’s $333. The revival on the stock price, leaping from the $240 range to back over $300 happened after the October quarterly, when Netflix fans decided they had made some headway by announcing the worst ad tier imaginable would go early. A smaller leap happened the quarter before, when Reed Hastings “blurted out” plans to add ads ($190 to $240).
Netflix hasn’t really delivered on ads or the sharing crackdown, but the faithful keep the candles lit.
You know where I see the signals that so much of this is just blind faith and fandom? People keep trying to tell the world that “Netflix won,” when the fight is a long way from being over.
