THB #349: Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, Part One

The title alone should have let us know how this was going to go.

There’s nothing wrong with the title, but there is too much of it for almost anyone to say it out loud in a conversation.

“That was the best piece of cake I ever had.”
”I’m so happy… have another piece.”
”Oh no. I couldn’t eat another bite. I just want to enjoy that amazing dessert.”
”Really? How about 3 more pieces? How about more cake than anyone has ever eaten before?”

This has actually become a recurring theme in the last couple of years when it comes to the big movies. And I hope it will stop. We are 21 years into the CG Era of action moviemaking and there is almost nothing that can’t be done. So it seems that many filmmakers and studios are taking the position that the one thing they can do to differentiate from the past films is to do more… much more… too much more.
