THB #327: AMC Theaters Quarterly
I felt compelled to write about this, though I really didn’t plan to do so. Why? Because the coverage I am seeing is a bit misleading. The two main offenses are the focus on a drop in attendance that is not well explained and the idea that Avatar 2 was, somehow, not enough. I’ll keep it brief.
The AMC quarter reported today is the last quarter of 2022, October, November, and December.
Avatar: The Way of Water has generated $265 millionr since the quarter being reported today by AMC and it has another month before this quarter (Q1 2023) ends. Spider-Man: No Way Home started faster in December 2021 than Avatar 2 did this year. But in the new year, it totaled $231 million… so Avatar 2 will bring more muscle to AMC and the entire domestic exhibition world in Q1 2023 than Spidey did last Q1.
To be clear, A:TWoW is unlikely to match Spider-Last’s domestic total of $805 million, even though it will, worldwide, smash the web-slinger with $2.27 billion and growing vs Spidey’s $1.9 billion final …
