THB #322: Strike! Strike?
I care about the industry’s unions.
I moved to Los Angeles with a television job in place in late 1987. It didn’t happen when the longest WGA strike in history started in March 1988. That set me off on a whole different course… which would end up including WGA membership for a time in the 90s. I lapsed. (I also was an AFTRA member in the 80s, after some extra appearances on SNL… that too lapsed.)
I was a journalist during the 2007 WGA strike and knew people deep in the process. I also had close relationships within SAG, which was in deep need of a strike, but with DGA and WGA already either settled or about to settle, they couldn’t get it together.
I had long passionate discussions with smart passionate people about the WGA strike that never had to happen, regarding packaging, a few years ago.
