THB #303: The Day With No Words
I feel like I have been staring at this screen all day.
I’m in a very philosophical mood and all kinds of ideas have come and gone.
I debated with myself about a newsletter called, “Balls!” Then it became “Huevos!” because I don’t want to be sexist.
The idea was that the industry is in a mode where there is way too much playing for the middle going on when, in reality, this is a business that is all about risk.
Then it was going to be “The Idiot’s Guide To The Transition To Streaming.” Try to simplify… not always my strongest skill set.
Streaming is Television. Period. The new components are “on demand,” unbundled bundles, an ad strategy for the majority of people who don’t want to pay for SVOD across the globe and who will need relief as the pricing rises amongst the big Streamers, and the “Linear Experience,” which a lot of people, not all over 60 still want along with on-demand.
Major Questions Remain:
What about Local affiliate stations?
How with the internet deal with more and more content hours being pulled across its infrastructure?
How much content can the providers afford and what should be done with the rest of it?
Etc.
Sigh… not in a summing up mood. And every company is so distinct.
Seems silly to write about Oscar in this quiet zone.
Not really deep enough into the Sundance literature to write smartly on the festival yet. (Buy Radical, or as I call it, To Señor With Love. It can play in America - in Spanish - and also be remade into the first great cool teacher movie with some great dramatic beats since Dangerous Minds. The kind of movie they don’t make anymore, but they did and people are going to love it… bring tissue.)
Netflix’s Quarterly is tomorrow… it will wait.
Ted Hope wants to tell you his story… me, not so much today.
The Stable Diffusion Playground, an open source AI platform, doesn’t seem to be a fan of Cate Blanchett or Angela Bassett.
But they are prepared for zombies on Oscar night…
Yeesh… it’s after 8 p.m.
Until tomorrow…
