THB #301: Box Office Brief
I am pretty happy about this Top 5 this weekend.
Yes, we have a national holiday on Monday, so there is some extra money on Sunday. But 41% on a genre film like M3GAN is great (and deserved).
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is an unexpected killer app… in part because it is terrific, but also because there is, literally, no other family movie - unless you include A2 - in the marketplace. Strange World (still on 610 screens) was completely blown by Chapek’s Disney and dropped under $1m a weekend after just 4 weekends, as it went to D+. Universal let The Bad Guys play without streaming until 2 weekends after it fell under $1 million a weekend. There is not another all-family (including under-10s) until Universal’s Super Mario Bros on April 7. (Shazam! Fury of the Gods is on for March 17, but I don’t think the first film played as all-family and I don’t suspect this one will be any different.) That’s 11 weekends from now and would put Puss at 15 weeks and still over a million a weekend. It c…
