If Jennifer Coolidge and Mike White could run for King & Queen of Hollywood (in either order, gender-neutral), they would win in a landslide.
The answer to the Golden Globes, as with pretty much all awards shows, is The Talent. Coolidge and Yeoh and Farrell and Brunson assured that viewers weren’t feeling like they wasted their time, especially in the 3rd hour of the show.
Jarrod Carmichael will be best remembered for freaking everyone the hell out in his opening monologue, pacing the stage like a leopard in a cage, telling truths that no one, of any color, gender or ethnicity was sure they wanted to laugh at, closing with an uncomfortable ambivalence about how Hollywood deserves to enjoy itself at an award show of unknown value. And later, going after Tom Cruise for his faith - whether we consider Scientology legitimate or not - using the name of a woman who may have been murdered by her husband (who leads the organization), and semi-outing Will Smith regarding his sexual preference. …
